What Are the Sacraments?

When Jesus walked the face of the Early nearly 2,000 years ago, he posessed the power to save, heal, nourish, and strengthen people. These powers continue today in the Church by means of the 7 Sacraments, continuing Jesus' saving work and ministry right here and now!

Each sacrament is an outward sign that actually conveys the grace (the gift of God) that it signifies... by means of outward symbols, God graciously and freely gives his divine life to anyone who wishes to embrace a relationship with Him.

These powerful Sacraments of the New Covenant are

  1. Baptism
  2. Confirmation
  3. Eucharist
  4. Confession
  5. Anointing of the Sick
  6. Holy Matrimony
  7. Holy Orders

Recommended Book

Swear to God by Dr. Scott Hahn

“This book, easy to read but profound in its implications, draws on the Bible, on Catholic teaching, patristic wisdom, and rabbinical learning to explain the meaning and importance of sacraments. What the author tells of his own discovery and experience of sacramental life is illuminating and heartwarming. It will help Catholics grasp better the wonder and necessity of sacraments in God’s plan of salvation and allow other Christians to see their significance for the following of Christ.”

- Francis Cardinal George, OMI, Former Archbishop of Chicago
